Counterfactual Heroine

Counterfactual Heroine is a conceptual photography series that imagines women as the protagonists of films that were never made. Each photograph unfolds like a still from a forgotten reel, drawing on the visual language of silent cinema, film noir, and surreal imagery to create stories that feel both familiar and impossible to place.

Created entirely in-camera, the series stages women in moments of ambiguity, transformation, and quiet resistance. Rather than retelling existing narratives, these photographs invent an alternate cinematic history where women occupy roles beyond the limits of traditional storytelling.

The series invites viewers to imagine the films that might have existed—and the heroines who should have been remembered.
