45 Seconds
In 45 Seconds, Daugherty distills time to its purest essence. Inspired by the disciplined minimalism of Japanese theatre, the work becomes a meditation on gesture, pause, and the emotional charge of stillness. Every movement, no matter how small, carries weight and intention—echoing the way traditional Noh and Butoh performances draw meaning from restraint rather than display.
The camera remains patient, allowing the viewer’s attention to deepen and slow. Through this near-static frame, Daugherty explores the tension between interior and exterior worlds—the space where thought, breath, and body align. “45 Seconds” is both a performance and a contemplation: a ritualized encounter with time that asks the viewer not to watch, but to feel.
